To the Family of Steve Frosch
(Below is a Letter from Morton Civic Member Lisa Modica (cousin of Bina and Steve Frosch)
It has been one week since Steve Frosch’s passing and on behalf of his wife Bina and her immediate family & friends, I would like to take a minute to express our immense gratitude to each and every single person that has showed their love and support this entire week.
As of this moment the GoFundMe collection fund is at $61,530 - 780 people have donated in just 8 days. This does not include the people that have donated to other collections also started in his memory. Also in addition to the many that have made non monetary donations such as food, gift cards, household items, etc. which continue to come in. To just say thank you would be an understatement, but during a very difficult time like this there is just no other way….so, thank you…. thank you from the deep bottom of our hearts.
The funeral service on Friday, which drew hundreds, was absolutely beautiful and a send off that Steve truly deserved. Some may say, it looked like a hero’s tribute….and in our eyes it was. Steve would have never imagined or expected any of it and if he was actually able to witness it would have humbly commented “I’m just a garbageman.” But to us and to so many, as you can see, he was much more.
We honorably and whole heartedly thank Mayor Bill de Blasio, Department of Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia, the entire NYC Department of Sanitation, President of the Teamsters Local 831 Harry Nespoli as well as the entire Local 831 family, the NYPD, the FDNY, the NCPD…the list can go on and on. The genuine kindness and love you all showed that day will stay in our hearts and minds forever.
The outpour of love and support that friends, colleagues, this community, this city and even complete strangers have shown and continue to show has not and will not go unnoticed. Whether a small note left on her doorstep or a large monetary donation, I can promise you that Bina and her family's appreciation is immeasurable. Although it may not be possible to personally thank each and every one of you, please know that it is in your kindness and love that we find solace.
Not now, but one day….we will read to Bina and the kids in detail each and every comment left about her loving husband and their devoted father. I and we, his family and friends, vow to never let his memory be forgotten. His infectious smile that would light up even the darkest of rooms will live on in his kids that share this same trait. Let the memory of that smile and gleam in those crystal blue eyes be the spark that keeps us all connected. Share…please continue to share your stories of Steve with us and with each other. Those who knew him know very well that he always had a good story to tell, one that would engage, your mind, sometimes your finances and your heart as well. So please, I ask that you keep his memory alive by sharing his legacy.
Our family has been shaken to the core and as we continue to grieve and console each other I ask you to never forget him and his family. Please continue to keep Bina and his children in your prayers.
To Steve - there is a hole in our hearts that will never be filled. A void in our lives that will never be replaced. You were one in a million and this world will never, ever see another Steve Frosch.
I am so glad I was home that day when you dropped off the latest issue of Nascar magazine to Mikey. It now sits on his desk where it will forever stay.
I am so glad you were able to be at our house 3 weeks ago to celebrate our son’s 10th birthday and just hang with our family and friends which you loved to do so much.
Lastly, I am beyond grateful to have spent one last dinner at your house 2 weeks ago, just my family and yours like we've done so many times before. I regret rushing you and Tommy to finish your cigars because Bina and I were exhausted and wanted to go to bed. But did our nights, and Im sure the nights of many others close to you, really end any other way??
Tommy and I will miss you more than words can define. You have our word that we will do everything in our power to remain a constant in Bina and the kids lives and promise to do whatever needs to be done. Our entire family vows this and will always be there to support them. We love you…forever.
I leave you with with these last words and Im sure you’ve heard them many times before. However and unfortunately, it sometimes takes moments like these to repeat them. Listen more closely this time and try to live by them a little bit more.
Life is too short.
Love and respect one another.
Stay humble, loyal and honest.
Pay it forward.
Say I love you everyday.
Spend each day like it's your last and count your blessings.
Rest easy Steve…you are forever in our hearts.
